Hydropower Day proclaimed

WASHINGTON – The Bureau of Reclamation, U.S. Department of Energy’s Water Power Technology Office and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers signed a Federal Hydropower generation memorandum of understanding at Hoover Dam on August 23. The MOU provides for a collaborative working relationship that prioritizes similar goals and aligns ongoing and future renewable energy development efforts among the three agencies. Push for cultured meat research

Dear Editor, The Farm System Reform Act — a bill championed by Cory Booker, which would ban factory farms — should include funding for cultured-meat research. For those who don’t know, cultured meat is grown from cells, without slaughtering animals. This technology would ameliorate many problems the Farm System Reform Act seeks to address. Most obviously, cultured meat resolves concerns about animal welfare, as animals aren’t involved in the process. But it would also benefit human health and the environment. Cultured meat is produced in a sterile environment and doesn’t require artificial growth hormones or unnecessary antibiotics. It requires a…

Who are you going to support?

Dear Editor, Once again a letter writer raises my ire. Hopefully this country is evolving, by looking back at a past where slave ownership was acceptable, and black individuals or women could not vote. In order to emphatically right these wrongs Constitutional Amendments 13, 15, and 19 were added. Today there seems to be a vocal segment of the population which is opposed to same sex marriage, transgender rights, and a woman’s right to reproductive choice. To those individuals, I would ask how your life has been unfavorably impacted by the last three mentioned? For example, how has Ellen DeGeneres’…

Board votes to open county employee gyms but not public gyms

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave County intends to allow its employees to use gym facilities in county buildings while the general public is prohibited from accessing gyms in the commercial sector by virtue of Governor Doug Ducey’s coronavirus-related executive orders. County Manager Sam Elters told the Board that he closed county gyms to the workforce “because it wouldn’t look good” while citizens can’t visit their private fitness facilities. Deputy County Attorney Ryan Esplin also bristled at Supervisor Hildy Angius’ motion to open county gyms to county employees. “I don’t know if the executive order applies to county gyms like this, I’d…
