Water main replacements, burro accident prevention discussed at council

LAKE HAVASU CITY – Lake Havasu City will be entering a six-month project and professional services contract so that tank industry consultants may perform a study on the forms and features of land surfaces. The purpose will be to design a grading and drainage plan and create a 750,000-gallon welded steel ground water storage tank that will be adjacent to the 2.0 MG welded steel storage tank layout that is already in existence.

The anticipated date for the project to be complete is February, 2025. Contract costs for this project in the amount of $74,480 was passed by city council. The city also passed the water main replacement project also set to be completed in February of 2025 along with the engineer’s estimate base bid in the amount of $2,891,760.

City Council brought the attention of  accident-related traffic incidents involving burros to the community. On July 19, a single male driver was involved in a collision with a burro on SR 95 and did not survive. It was reported that the city has received over 80 calls within the last 12 months on burro related accidents on the highway.

Lake Havasu is making plans to address the issue with Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) help. The city hopes BLM will execute ethical captures of burros to reduce the number of accidents on the highway.
