Valle Vista resident unhappy with fire service

Dear Editor,

On Nov. 2, I called our local fire station in Valle Vista, which is operated by Northern Arizona Consolidated Fire District (NACFD). I asked about pit fires due to the high fire alert and fire hazards due to dry vegetation.

The person who answered the phone told me I was right, so I told him the location of the fire pit and he said he would look into it. My house could have burned down by then. After 30 minutes I called 911 and talked the a dispatcher, and I was transferred.

Within about 10 minutes a fire truck came up Chaparral to Cayuse Drive, turned onto Cayuse Drive and turned around. They were lost. Then they came up Cayuse Court but it’s a dead-end street. They turned around again. I was in my driveway and pointed to the house behind me where the fire was going. They were at the house for about five minutes, and the fire was put out.

On Nov. 4, I requested a copy of the report, and was told that I would have to go to the main station and pay for it,  maybe $15 or $20.

No wonder no one wants to move into Valle Vista with the problems about their fire department. The Valle Vista Board of Directors should contact the fire chief and fire board and demand better service for Valle Vista property owners.

Let’s get together and work for more cooperation from all Mohave County departments for a better Valle Vista community. It’s getting personal now. The bad guy for complaining and not the good guy for breaking the rules and regulations.

Kim Gaines

Valle Vista property owner
