Ursenbach lauded for economic development work

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave County Manager Sam Elters used Monday’s Board of Supervisors meeting to shine bright light on internal achievement once again. This time Elters praised Economic Development Director Tami Ursenbach for prestigious recognition by the Arizona Association for Economic Development Association (AAED).

Elters said Ursenbach won two categories at the AAED’s recent 2020 Golden Prospector Awards ceremony. Elters said economic development in Mohave County is in good hands under her leadership.

“We’re grateful for your efforts. We’re proud of your accomplishment and we want you to keep up the good work,” Elters told Ursenbach.

Ursenbach’s award nomination came from Board of Supervisors Chairman Jean Bishop. She said it was very easy to write the recommendation letter.

“I was proud to toot your horn as well as Mohave County’s. So, thank you very much. You are our shining star,” Bishop told Ursenbach.

Ursenbach was named Economic Developer of the year for medium size counties in Arizona. She said any local success derives from a team effort.

“It’s been wonderful to work with all of the board of supervisors and the county manager,” she said. Ursenbach said the cities, their elected officials, their economic development directors, area chambers of commerce, the Small Business Development Center are also part of the mix.

“The big thing for Mohave County is that we’re being seen by the state. I’m now starting to get calls all the time from the Arizona Commerce Authority saying ‘hey, we’ve got a project. Are you interested in this’, or ‘what can we do’, and all I do is pick up the phone and they’re here in a day or two to make sure they’re here to support the businesses coming in or our local businesses.”

Mohave County Economic Development also received an AAED merit award. Ursenbach said that recognized that she landed two of nine projects in play during recruiting trips to California and Utah.

Ursenbach said each of the other 7 projects are still alive, but that they’ve been slowed by the pandemic.
