The young don’t know how good they have it

Dear Editor,

While shopping at my local Walmart, I happened to be standing in line behind a young lady and three young children. I will assume by the looks of her grocery cart, they were all her children. As she began to unload her nearly over-flowing cart, I was jealous! There were so many snacks, i was almost drooling. Everything from chips, to bakery items, and everything in between. Ah yes. Who else remembers being able to enjoy those things, every single day? We should be rewarded for living this many years. But alas, we are now punished with HEALTHY food. Even if you don’t have a weight problem it seems that more and more restrictions come our way about what we can and can’t eat. This has too much cholesterol. This one has too much fat. And if that is not a problem, we can always find those that are far too high in calories. When the “mood for bad food” gets the best of us, we may just eat a quart of ice-cream, or order pizza. Let’s just take the poison in one big dose! Those youngsters who complain about how “unfair” life is, have no idea what lies ahead of them. Rules, never end. That also includes taking care of ourselves. People often speak about “all things in moderation.” Why does that not apply to fruit and veggies instead of cookies and candy? So, as I watched this little family load up on all those goodies, I sighed. I smiled at those little cherub faces as I thought to myself, “enjoy, kids. Your day is coming.”
