Dear Editor,
Wow! You live long enough and you think you have seen and read almost everything. Then a letter appears in the newspapers which shocks the sensibilities such as “Schiff blasts democrats” in the Aug. 21 edition.
How does anyone equate his statement, “it is the turning out of voters that wins elections,” with the FACT Hillary Clinton garnered just shy of three million MORE votes than Donald Trump, yet she is NOT our president elect? Majority rules, I think not. It seems the antiquated electoral college actually elects the president, thereby engendering the thought (my vote really doesn’t count, so why bother).
Dr. Schiff describes himself as a “deplorable,” meanwhile Trump labels millions of Americans who don’t vote for him as “show[ing] a total lack of knowledge or great disloyalty.” By extrapolation we must have more ignorant “disloyals” in this country than “deplorables.”
I do not know what type of medicine Dr. Schiff practices. I would hope however, if he is not a cardiologist, i.e., and finds himself caring for a patient with coronary disease, he would put aside any prejudices he might harbor and collaborate with a colleague who treats such maladies in order to do what is best for his patient.
My point is Americans are already divided enough and if we don’t figure a way to overcome our political differences and work together, then in essence as John McCain indicated to congress before he died, we are getting nothing accomplished here.
