Sex offense case ends in hung jury

LAKE HAVASU CITY – The trial of a Lake Havasu City man charged with sex offenses involving two underage girls ended in a hung jury. The panel deliberated most of Thursday and more than an hour Friday morning before informing Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle it was unable to reach unanimous verdicts in the case against Thomas Workman, 50.

Workman had been charged with child molestation, multiple counts of sexual conduct with a minor, attempted sexual conduct with a minor. Judge Carlisle dismissed one of the counts when the state rested its case, and before the jury deliberations began.

Deputy Mohave County Attorney Amanda Claerhout can pursue a second trial, attempt a plea agreement or dismiss the case. Claerhout and defense attorney Virginia Crews will discuss next steps during a Friday, April 18 status hearing.
