Rate hike likely for sanitation services

KINGMAN – Kingman residents are highly satisfied with city sanitation service and many support a rate increase to maintain twice weekly pickup. Those were some of the results of a sanitation service survey that Public Works Director Rob Owen recently shared with the city council.

Owen said he was surprised and pleased that 1,966 of the program’s 11,800 residential customers responded to the survey. He said nearly 1,700 said they are highly satisfied with city sanitation service and personnel.

“We’re really proud of them and the customers seem to appreciate the work that they do.

The survey option of bumping the monthly sanitation service fee from $19.78 to $21.07, an increase of $1.29, is being forwarded to the Municipal Utilities Commission for its consideration during a January 28 hearing. Finance Director Tina Moline the matter could come back to Council in February when a notice of intent could lead to a public hearing and possible council adoption in April.

City Manager Ron Foggin said the rate has not been adjusted since 2007 and additional revenue is needed for capital investment.
