wildfire with firefighter

MOHAVE COUNTY — During the first half of January 2026, Havasu National Wildlife Refuge and Bill Williams River National Wildlife Refuge will conduct prescribed fire burning operations.

At Havasu National Wildlife Refuge, the fire crew will ignite 185-acres of salt cedar debris located on the west side of Topock Marsh and several miles Northwest of Golden Shores. Weather permitting, the fire crew will also conduct a prescribed burn on a 1625-acre cattail marsh unit known as “Lost Lake”, which is directly south of Topock Marsh and just north of the Topock 66 Marina.

At Bill Williams River National Wildlife Refuge, the fire crew will prescribe burn approximately 50-acres of cattail marsh southwest of the Bill Williams River Bridge along State Highway 95. All fire operations will be focused on the marsh areas on the La Paz County side of the bridge. This burn is not expected to greatly impact the flow of traffic across the Highway 95 bridge.
