Parents charged in child abuse, drug case

KINGMAN – A five-year old girl and an older sibling have been removed from a Kingman home that has been condemned and declared uninhabitable. Kingman police said the girl opened the door while her mother hid in another room when police arrived Tuesday to assist a Department of Child Safety investigation at a home in the 700 block of Ridgecrest Drive.

Michael Anthony Gurney, 39, and his wife Donna Ann Gurney, 43, were initially arrested on charges associated with previously issued warrants. Child abuse and drug related charges were added after authorities observed methamphetamine and assorted drug paraphernalia in plain view in the home.

“Investigators obtained a search warrant and later found additional amounts of methamphetamine and the associated drug paraphernalia to indicate drug sales,” said Deputy Kingman Police Chief Rusty Cooper. “Both Gurneys admitted involvement in the offenses and were booked into the Mohave County Adult Detention facility.”
