Mohave College appoints new Kingman campus dean

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave College will welcome Dr. Jacob Crawford as the Dean of Student and Community Engagement on the Neal Campus-Kingman starting on Dec. 22. In this role, Dr. Crawford will oversee student life, leadership development, community partnerships that enrich the college’s mission to foster student success and engagement.

“I’m honored and humbled to be selected to serve as the Dean of Student and Community Engagement in Kingman,” said Dr. Crawford. “Kingman is a wonderful place to live and work and I can’t wait to hear stories about how our community is supporting our students.”

He’s served as a student club advisor where he has focused on organizing community events with a student engagement focus like the Flash Film Festival and Tri-State High School Art Show.

Dr. Crawford is a makerspace enthusiast. He built and currently manages the Bullhead City Campus makerspace for students, faculty and staff. He has also helped establish the makerspace at the new Advanced Manufacturing Training Center building in Kingman.

“I’m excited to have Dr. Crawford on board serving our Kingman area campuses. His excellent record of engagement with students and community will definitely be an asset in this role and he already has so many great ideas on enhancing the student experience,” said Dr. Tramaine Rausaw, Vice President of Student & Community Engagement. “As Dean of Student & Community Engagement he will be able to ensure we are offering services and resources that not only keep students and the community engaged with the College, but also meeting their needs.”

Beyond the campus, he serves as a board member for the River Valley Artists Guild, where he assists in arts programming, grants and scholarships.

He recently earned his doctoral degree in literature from the University of Texas at Dallas. Dr. Crawford is a community college alumnus, he attended American River Community College in Sacramento where he earned his Associate of Arts in Liberal Arts. At the same time, he was working toward his bachelor’s degree at Sacramento State University where he double majored in History and Humanities, and Religious Studies. When working on his master’s program is when he found the passion and love for teaching, especially at the community college level.

Dr. Crawford has been with the College since 2018 as a humanities full-time faculty member. His passion for the humanities reinforces his desire to foster collaboration, and to create opportunities for learning and understanding.

He’s part of the Arizona Community College Leadership Academy (ACCLA) as an inaugural fellow and as a faculty fellow for the Mohave College Center for Teaching and Learning.

Dr. Crawford’s strategic experience is further highlighted by his past role as Co-Chair of Mohave College’s Emerging Technology Taskforce, responsible for assessing current technological needs and uses prior to the adoption of emerging technologies. He’s eager to employ this collaborative energy to the broader community in Kingman, where he resides.

“I look forward to working with the community to show that education is valuable and life changing. I’m excited to get involved with community partners to collaborate on how we can help all age demographics with higher education opportunities, and identify needs like food scarcity, housing and mental health resources,” said Dr. Crawford. “In this position I hope to work with local civic leaders to identify community needs and how to solve them together.”
