Havasu teen confesses to drug deal activity

LAKE HAVASU CITY – A Lake Havasu City teenager quick to confess to drug dealing activity has entered a plea agreement that could send her to the Arizona Department of Corrections. Reina Caldera, 19, pleaded guilty November 26 to possession of dangerous drugs for sale.

Four other felony drug offenses involving methamphetamine and cocaine are dismissed in the deal.

Caldera was arrested in an investigation of Lake Havasu drug sales that was focused on her boyfriend, Jase Scheer, 21.

Police reports and prosecutor Phillip Delgado have said that Lake Havasu police officers seized about 11.3 ounces of methamphetamine and about one-quarter ounce of cocaine during an October 17 search of the apartment Caldera and Scheer shared in the 2100 block of Palo Verde Boulevard N. More than 50 pills and scales used to weigh drugs were also confiscated.

The police department police narrative indicated that Caldera professed Scheer’s innocence and claimed culpability for all of the drug dealing activity when interviewed following her arrest. Other admissions contained in police reports were repeated by Deputy Mohave County Attorney Phillip Delgado during the change of plea hearing.

Delgado matched reports that Caldera admitted she would drive to Phoenix every three weeks or so to purchase up to a pound of methamphetamine to distribute in Lake Havasu. He said Caldera told investigators that the $2,200 seized during the apartment search were her drug transaction proceeds.

Forfeiture of that money will be ordered at a December 22 sentencing hearing. Judge Billy Sipe can place Caldera on probation or order her to serve a three- to five-year prison term.

Scheer’s case remains pending.
