KINGMAN – A Kingman man was apologetic when sentenced to prison for attempting to bring drugs from Phoenix back to northwest Arizona for distribution. David Murphy, 64, was the driver of the vehicle from which authorities seized two pounds of methamphetamine in south Mohave County.
Authorities were tracking the Murphy vehicle by cellphone before the Oct. 26, 2023 traffic stop in the 1800 block of U.S. 93 in the vicinity of Wikieup. After previously pleading guilty to transportation of dangerous drugs for sale, Murphy made a Jan. 30 appearance for sentencing before Judge Doug Camacho.
“I apologize to the court your Honor for my actions,” Murphy said. “This is a life sentence for me, but I did wrong. That’s all I have to say.”
Camacho ordered a 7.5-year prison term.
Judge Billy Sipe on Jan. 9 rejected a plea deal proposed for case co-defendant, Manya Bock, Murphy’s neighbor and a passenger in the suspect vehicle hauling drugs back to Kingman. Bock, 50, Kingman, was to receive a five-year prison term under the proposal.
Judge Sipe rejected the deal, unwilling to accept the sentencing limitation while thinking Bock deserves more time behind bars for the drug offense and its commission while she was on probation for an unrelated burglary.
