KINGMAN, Ariz. – The National Society of Daughter’s of American Revolution (NSDAR) proudly celebrate America’s 250 years of freedom because their forefathers fought for that freedom.
Jaclyn Schrock, Regent of NSDAR, said she has proven genealogy, as do all DAR members, of their ancestors fighting in the Revolutionary War or providing services to help the Patriots.
“I have one on my dad’s side that made muskets,” Ms. Schrock said. “On my mom’s side, I’m descent from Luke Hitchcock who died while returning home from a battle, not of wounds, but (from) tick or camp fever.”
She said his son Justin served as a fifer and fought when England tried to invade from Canada.
“After the war he married a loyalist who provided my sixth great grandfather,” she commented.
Schrock said Nancy Shepherd, NSDAR Chapter Committee Chair for America’s 250th, arranged for the Proclamation with Vice Mayor Cherish Sammeli months ago.
They in turn, gave the Vice Mayor and all council members a gold coin honoring America’s 250th birthday and left a ball cap for Mayor Watkins who attended the meeting by video.
The Proclamation, she said, was to encourage the community to participate in DAR patriotic events. Their next event will be at the Mohave County Library August 12.
“Freedom isn’t free,” Ms. Schrock said.
