LAKE HAVASU CITY- You know the saying: “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade,” which come to think of it, is a great drink for Lake Havasu, America’s hottest city. It was here on June 29, 1994, along the shores of the Colorado River, that the city smashed the record for the highest temperature recorded by any city in America – a scorching 128 degrees F.
Lake Havasu City will never disappoint. Come here in summer and it will be hot. Hot enough to bake cookies on car dashboards, as the city demonstrated in late June during its “Hot For Havasu” event celebrating the 25th anniversary of that sizzling record-breaking day.

As the city plans for its busy season this fall, and anticipation increases for cooler weather, locals and visitors alike are looking forward to these special events:
Free Family Swim Day, Aug. 3, 2019, noon to 4 p.m. at the Lake Havasu City Aquatic Center, 100 Park Ave. It’s sponsored by Havasu Healthy Striders and Elks Lodge 2399.

Lake Havasu Farmers Market, Aug. 24 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. At The Kaws, 2144 McCulloch Blvd., food entrepreneurs, artists, local workers and community members enjoy access to kitchen, event and work space in a flexible, modern environment. The new Lake Havasu Farmers Market at The Kaws focuses on vendors offering fresh and in-season produce and food. The market will also feature interactive learning opportunities, culinary creations, freshly baked bread and desserts, soaps, lotions, jewelry and clothing, to name a few.
The Lake Havasu Farmers Market will be held on the third Saturday of the month from 8 a.m. to noon (except in August, when it will be held on the fourth Saturday – Aug. 24). During the summer months, the market will be primarily indoors with a few food vendors outside.

5 Iron Tournament, Sept. 7, 7:30 a.m., Lake Havasu Golf Club, 2400 Clubhouse Dr. Why have 14 clubs in your bag when you can only hit one at a time? At the Annual 5 Iron Tournament players are allowed only their 5 Irons for driving, chipping, and putting. Cost is $50 per player. Presented by Kiwanis of Lake Havasu City, it’s said to be smashing good fun.

HavaSmash – And speaking of smashing, a new attraction in town called Hava Smash allows visitors to let off some steam. Lake Havasu City’s first recreational rage room (yes, that’s a thing) is a safe and therapeutic stress-reducing attraction reminiscent of the famous printer demolition scene in the 1999 movie Office Space. Safety goggles and helmets, sledge hammers, work gloves, overalls and even baseball bats are included to wreak havoc on computers, printers, even cars and kitchen appliances. It’s said to be weirdly satisfying. Prices start at $30 for 15 minutes.
