KINGMAN – A Kingman teenager has been indicted for first degree murder following the death of the man he admitted shooting late last month, according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO). The agency indicated that Terry Hill, 35, Kingman, died Feb. 3 at the Las Vegas hospital where he was being treated for the gunshot to the face that he suffered on Jan. 30 at a residence in the 3600 block of Northfield Ave.
While the MCSO declined to identify the juvenile while noting the upgraded murder charge, the suspect is named as Keygun Field, 17, in the Grand Jury indictment as well as the agency’s probable cause (PC) statement that provides a narrative of what allegedly led to the shooting.
The PC indicated that Field and other juveniles were visiting a friend at the Northfield home before Field entered a bedroom to ask the friend’s mom for a ride home.
The PC said that Field called the woman a “tweaker” when she indicated she had taken her medication and could not drive him anywhere. It said that the woman told investigators that another juvenile came into the bedroom and was “sizing up” Hill, her boyfriend, for a fight.
The detailed PC further noted the woman said that Field motioned his hand toward a pocket and asked if Hill “wanted to catch a fade,” an apparent threat. The statement said that the boys left the bedroom, but that Field was in the hallway when he invited Hill to exit.
Hill did so, according to the PC that details Field’s admissions about the ensuing deadly encounter. The teen reportedly told investigators that Hill rushed him from behind in the hallway.
“Keygun said that he fell onto his stomach but as he was falling, he noticed Terry pulling a gun out of his pocket and setting (it) down on something in the hallway,” the PC said. “Keygun said that when he tried to get up, Terry came from behind him and put him in a choke hold.”
The PC said the teen indicated the combatants ended up piled on the hallway floor.
“Keygun said he then grabbed the gun with Terry still having him in a choke hold (and) put it up the right side of their heads and shot,” the PC said. “Keygun said that after he shot, he dropped the gun and started running down Northfield.”
The suspect was subsequently arrested at his residence on Verdugo and the weapon used in the shooting was reportedly covered from where it was discarded by another juvenile as teens fled the Northfield home.
The MCSO said it continues its incident investigation.
