Kingman residents, businesses reminded about weed abatement

KINGMAN – The City of Kingman is urging residents and businesses to take proactive steps in maintaining their properties as part of the 2026 Weed Abatement Program. This initiative is designed to reduce fire hazards and enhance public safety by ensuring properties remain free of overgrown weeds and dry, dead or dormant vegetation, which can quickly become fuel for fires, especially as temperatures rise.

To mitigate these risks, the City enforces Kingman Municipal Code 7-165 and the International Property Maintenance Code 302.4, which require property owners to keep weeds and plant growth below six inches. Compliance is not just about aesthetics but a matter of safety. Unchecked vegetation poses a significant fire threat and can obstruct streets, sidewalks, alleys, and traffic signals, increasing hazards for both pedestrians and motorists. To maintain visibility and accessibility, city ordinances require trees and shrubs to be trimmed with at least seven feet of clearance over sidewalks and fifteen feet over roadways.

The City’s Code Enforcement Division will proactively enforce these regulations along main corridors, identifying properties that pose a fire risk due to excessive weed growth. Property owners found in violation will receive a 30-day notice to address the issue. If the problem remains unresolved, a Criminal Citation will be issued requiring court appearance.

The City encourages all residents to take preventative action now by removing overgrown weeds, clearing dry vegetation, and maintaining sidewalks and easements. By working together, we can create a safer, more fire-resistant community.

For more information or to report concerns about overgrown vegetation, please contact Code Enforcement at 928-753-8130.
