KINGMAN – The Mohave County Library – Kingman is being renovated and expanded to continue to provide access to knowledge, entertainment and other opportunities for area residents. More than 50 people attended a Monday morning, Nov. 25, groundbreaking for the $4.3-million project at the library located at 3269 North Burbank Street.
Library Director Kathy Pennell said the community has outgrown the facility that opened in 1991, before computers and the internet altered the library landscape. “Those advances greatly changed how libraries operate and they also have changed what our users expect from libraries,” Pennell said.
The 15,000 square foot library that opened 28 years ago will be upgraded and new construction will add another 11,000 square feet of space. Administration currently housed in a modular building will be relocated inside the new facility.
New construction amenities include an expanded community room, a new children’s library, a teen room, two study rooms and additional computer space. Pennell thanked the Kingman Friends of the Library for a $106,000 donation for the improvement campaign.
“We, as a library staff, take great pride in serving the community and look forward to continuing to make strides toward even better service to our residents with this expanded and modern library,” Pennell said.
Contractor T.R. Orr is expected to complete the project by late 2020.
