LAKE HAVASU CITY – Just in case you missed the Havasu Art Trail event, there’s another exhibit gearing up their displays this weekend for the Art at the Lake showing. Since 1978, The Havasu Art Guild has been a support system to many of our local artists through seminars, workshops, exhibits, and art shows.
In celebration of the guild’s 45th anniversary, the private nonprofit will be presenting works from fifty local artists at their celebration. One of those local artists is retiree Bill Schaufel who decided to pick up painting and drawings through independent instruction.
With watercolors, canvas, oils and acrylics, the artist’s inspiration comes from nature and the fascinating mixture of tenacity and serenity of water. Those who are collectors of southwest jewelry will appreciate the craftsmanship of Steve Bonds whose unique pieces are created by fuming together hand cut silver.
Bonds’ work has been sent off to various different countries for many other cultures to enjoy. Another artist in this year’s mix of talents is Mary Shanks. With her use of acrylics and mixed media, Shanks enjoys creating hidden secrets adding layers and layers of color that creates uniquely abstract prints.
The Art at the Lake event will have many arts and crafts for sale at the marketplace. Shoppers will be able to view photography, glass and woodworks, ceramics and plenty more.
There will be food and raffle drawings available that will be intended for their art scholarship fund for Havasu high school students wanting to pursue artistic degrees in higher education. Art at the Lake is a two-day occasion set to take off on Saturday, March 9 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, March 10 from 10 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Aquatic Center.
The club hopes to continue to invigorate community involvement in the arts as well as encourage the capabilities of their member’s aspirations. The Havasu Art Guild is a welcoming group where you don’t need to be an artist to join the guild as their doors are always open to anyone who is interested.
