GRAND CANYON WEST – Grand Canyon West celebrated 37 years in Mohave County on Sunday, June 29. Events included free passes and free access to the Skywalk for all Mohave County residents.

“Every year, we give out this celebration free to all Mohave County residents. We usually have it in April. We had our terminal renovated, so we can have our guests enjoy that experience of the new renovation that just opened yesterday. We also give free admission to the park and also to the Skywalk,” said Operations Manager Jericho Vaughn.

The Skywalk was created in 2007 by an investor named David Gin. “We’re at the Western rim of the Hualapai tribe. We own a million acres,” Vaughn continued. “Last weekend, we had about 1,400 people on the bridge.”

Vaughn continued, “I spoke to an elderly couple that came from Golden Valley. They’ve been living there for 20 years, and today was their first experience at Grand Canyon West. They were thrilled, happy, excited, that they want to come back next year.”

Vaughn went on to explain that the area is very sacred to the Hualapai tribe, and that it also has special meaning to him personally. “To work for my people means a lot, to give back to my people and to work in a world class destination, to be chosen here is important. My father was the first one to walk out on that Skywalk with Buzz Aldrin,” Vaughn said.
