Golden Valley cold case human remains identified

GOLDEN VALLEY – Mohave County Sheriff’s Office is continuing their investigation into a missing person/ located human remains case in Golden Valley. Using advanced DNA technology, the human remains located on October 22, 2000, in Golden Valley have been positively identified as Dennis Craig Edmondson, who was reported missing on February 18,1998.

In January 2022, the missing persons cold case was assigned to our Special Investigation Unit (SIU) for further review. Updated flyers were created and distributed to encourage members of the community to share information with SIU Investigators. New DNA samples were obtained from family members of Edmondson and sent to NamUs for review. During their investigations, SIU Investigators thought that unidentified human remains located in October of 2000 could be those of their missing person, Dennis Edmondson. The remains were located by teenagers in a desert area off of Burro Rd. and Verde Dr. and recovered by detectives. Dental records were examined by detectives at the time but provided negative results.

SIU Investigators were informed that the DNA samples from the unidentified human remains were degraded, making comparison of them to other DNA samples extremely difficult. Due to the difficulty of electronic comparison, a manual review of the comparison was requested by investigators.

On February 24, 2026, investigators received confirmation from UNT Health that the human remains were a match to the familial DNA samples provided, confirming that the unidentified human remains were that of Dennis Edmondson.

The case must now transition into a death investigation. Investigators are exploring the probability that Edmondson did not die of natural causes and are urging anyone who may have information about this case to come forward. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact our SIU Investigators at 928-753-0753 ext. 4408 and reference DR# 98-03894.
