Four Kingman City Council incumbents won re-election

KINGMAN – All four Kingman City Council incumbents won re-election in the July 30 primary election. Council members Keith Walker, Jamie Scott Stehly and Vice Mayor Cherish Sammeli gathered sufficient votes to knock off challenger Robert Cathey to earn new terms of office without need of the general election.

Keith Walker                  4,235

Jamie Scott Stehly        4,073

Cherish Sammeli           3,510

Robert Cathey                            3,441

Mayor Ken Watkins was unopposed and will serve another term.

Challenger Jim Dykens (53.4%, 3,214) earned the two-year Council term by defeating Council appointee Cengiz Arik (1,670) and Elliot Chalew (1,137) .

“This is the first time that I’ve ever run for office and I’m excited,” said the retired Fire Marshal. “I’m blown away with finding out how many votes I got, but obviously I couldn’t have done it without the Kingman Fire Department Union and the Kingman Police Officer’s Association for endorsing me.”

Dykens also thanked the electorate.

“They put their trust behind me in voting and now I just have to live up to that trust, which I will do everything in my power to do.”

Election results are preliminary and unofficial pending canvas on Aug. 8.
