KINGMAN – Kingman police report the arrests of five male teenagers for their alleged involvement in a drive by shooting incident that injured no one. Investigation began Sept. 22 following a report of a drive by shooting in the 400 block of Golconda Ave.
Deputy Police Chief Joel Freed said officers located multiple shell casings, fired from weapons of two different calibers, at the crime scene. Freed says no people were struck by bullets and that investigators aren’t certain if the suspects were shooting into the air, or if a vehicle, home or other targets were in play.
“Investigators identified the suspects and three search warrants were served in the Kingman area,” Freed said. “With the assistance of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office detectives and SWAT team, the Arizona Department of Public Safety’s Mohave County Investigation Unit and the Mohave County Juvenile Probation Department all suspects were identified, located and safely taken into custody.”
Freed reported the arrests occurred on Sept. 26 and 27. He said two 15-year-olds and two 17-year-olds were booked into the Juvenile Detention Center while 18-year-old Jacob Butler was lodged in the Adult Detention Center. Initial charges include drive by shooting, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful discharge of a firearm.
A specific motive has not been established. Freed, however, said investigation is focused on an ongoing dispute between two groups of young people, possibly arguing over girls and other matters.
