LAKE HAVASU CITY — Retired Lake Havasu City fire captain Tony Rivello is giving back to active fire rescuers and first responders with the launch of his new non-profit A Clear Path Forward.
Before retirement, Rivello use to hike after his shifts as way to release stress. His hikes turned into trail running where he eventually began to lead trail runs with colleagues.
Debuting in just March of this year, A Clear Path Forward is designed for first responders and firefighters to explore the outdoors for coping and therapeutic needs. The organization feels this will develop positive habits intended to control the mental effects and long term demands that come with handling emergency situations.
Rivello along with his son, created AZAK Event Co. Standing for Arizona to Alaska, the event planning company will work alongside the nonprofit as it holds a BLM special recreation permit so they can produce up four trail racing events yearly from September to April. This month A Clear Path Forward will be hosting their vey first Lizard Peak Scramble 10k/5k fundraiser.
Participants of the race are encouraged to bring their own RV, trailer, or tent as the charity is offering free onsite camping where the race will take place. The event will have four categories. A 5K and 10K that will include Lizard Peak, the 5K run hike named the Heart Attack Hill, Dirt Dash for kids ages 4 and up, and don’t forget the 1K or.75-mile loop for the kid’s dirt dash race.
“Aside from giving back to a great charity, runners will get the opportunity to explore of unique trails of the park that many may not know even exist,” Rivello said.
All registered runners who make their way to the finish line will win a custom finishers medal. There will be a runners raffle and prizes available to all participants of the race.
Entry fees include a custom and access to a post-race recovery area provided by First Savings Bank where they will be giving exercise demos with Agave Physical Therapy. The bank will also be providing hydration drinks, healthy snacks, and cold plunges. Fees for the dirt dash kids race is $15 and adult entry fees for the 5K or 10k is $40 to $55. Registrations can be done by visiting the website at https://runsignup.com/Race/AZ/LakeHavasuCity/LizardPeakTrailChallenge.
Anyone wanting to pick up a packet the day before the race can do so by visiting Dub Campell Parkway in Lake Havasu between 5pm to 7pm on Friday October 17.
A Clear Path Forward’s first Lizard Peak Scramble fundraiser will take place on Saturday October 18 at 7206 Dub Campbell Parkway in Lake Havasu City. As firefighters and first responders risk their lives everyday to be our heroes, Rivello feels very strongly that their mental and physical health should be nurtured as much as possible. All proceeds to this event will go towards A Clear Path Forward.
