Eugene Patrick Cook Sr.

1931-2023

Pat Cook, a beloved father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2023, in Mesa, AZ at the age of 92. He was born on August 29, 1931, to William and Dorothy Cook in Cairo, New York, he was the third of seven children.

Pat’s journey began in New York, where his family ran a boarding house. During his teen years, the Cook family relocated to Pinto Creek, AZ, where Pat completed his schooling and encountered the love of his life, Bonnie June Harper, in Show Low, AZ. They married and together raised four children: Pat Jr., Bonnie, Billie, and Joanie.

Pat embarked on a diverse career, taking on various roles throughout his life. He moved to Salem, Oregon, working as an engineering aide for the Oregon State Highway Department before returning to Arizona. For many years, he contributed his skills to the AZ State Highway Department. It was during this time that he discovered and acquired property in Wikieup, AZ, where he and his family lived and thrived, managing his ranch, and operating the Mobil station.

Later, seeking a cooler climate, Pat and June settled in Truxton, AZ, where they purchased and managed another service station for numerous years. At the age of 67, he pursued his dream of building a house, purchasing property in Valentine, AZ, where he constructed his home. Subsequently, they sold the property to Keepers of the Wild and relocated to Kingman, where they spent the rest of their lives.

Pat’s life was a tapestry of rich experiences. He was an individual of many interests, from flying planes to racing horses, racing drag cars, mining, and showcasing his prowess as a skilled pool player. His cherished routine included breakfasts at Grandpa’s Kitchen. His absence leaves a void that is deeply felt by all who knew him.

Pat is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, June; his father, William; mother, Dorothy; brother, Bill; and sisters, Rae, Joan, and Linda. He is survived by his brother, Mike; sister, Beverly; son, Pat (Jeanette); daughters Bonnie (Mike), Billie (Tom), and Joanie; seven grandchildren; 21 great- grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Pat’s life will be held in the Spring of 2024 to honor his memory and the legacy he leaves behind.
