MOHAVE COUNTY – One of the most important issues Mohave County is facing is the present and future needs of water supply. County Supervisor Travis Lingenfelter has just received a significant appointment as a member of the Mohave County West Basin Water Users Study Committee.
The appointment was made by Arizona Speaker of the House Russell W. ”Rusty” Bowers. In his letter to Supervisor Lingenfelter, Bowers points out that the purpose of the Committee is (1) to receive and analyze all groundwater withdrawal data developed by the Department of Water Resources; (2) to make recommendations to the Director of Water Resources, including recommendations on programs and policies for the basin; (3)to review and make recommendations to the Director of Water Resources regarding the independent consultant’s report, in which the independent consultant estimates the rate of groundwater depletion in the northwest basin’s planning area and estimates the number of years of groundwater that remains in the basin.
Finally, the Committee will complete its task by submitting a report of its recommendations to the Director of Water Resources, the Governor, the President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives on or before December 31, 2021 and provide a copy of the report to the Secretary of State.
Besides Supervisor Lingenfelter, Mohave County’s State Senator Sonny Borrelli and Representative Regina Cobb will also serve on the Committee as co-chairs. Supervisor Lingenfelter accepted the appointment by saying, ““it is an honor to be appointed to this vital committee and I look forward to serving as the Study Committee analyzes the latest data and works towards providing recommendations to effectively protect the future resiliency and sustainability of the Hualapai basin. I have been actively involved in our regional water issues since 2017 and I intend to stay very active and involved in our water rights and needs. Nothing is more important for our county.”
Supervisor Lingenfelter took office as a Mohave County Supervisor in January.
