Closures at Lake Havasu Avenue

Lake Havasu Avenue, between the intersections of McCulloch Boulevard and Swanson Avenue, is partially closed on Monday, March 4 at 10:00 p.m. through Tuesday, March 5 at 4:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, March 6 and Thursday, March 7 between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., this intersection is closed to all thru traffic. Access to and from the Island remains open throughout the construction.  The public is requested to use caution and follow the detour signs when traveling near the construction area. Please plan alternate routes, if possible.

Progress Update

The construction project on Lake Havasu Avenue between Swanson Avenue and Mesquite Avenue began in January 2019 and remains on schedule to finish prior to Memorial Day Weekend.

The improvements to the area include the replacement of aging underground utilities, including water, sewer and drainage. The underground work is nearly complete.  Work now focuses on above ground improvements, such as new driveways, sidewalks and ultimately new pavement throughout.  Additional improvements include enhanced landscaping, decorative crosswalks and improved traffic signals.

Historically, this area experienced traffic congestion and high numbers of accidents.  To maximize safety and increase traffic flows, raised medians and dedicated left-had turn lanes at intersections are installed.

Expect Delays

The intersection of McCulloch Boulevard and Lake Havasu Avenue must remain open at all times so traffic can access the Island and the businesses located within the construction zone.  As expected, this has extended the life of the project.  We ask the public to use alternate routes and not use Lake Havasu Avenue, unless you are visiting the Island or businesses in the construction area.

In an effort to create a safer environment for the workers and the traveling public, the traffic signals are placed in flash mode.  If you need to drive through the construction zone, please use caution and follow the detour signs.  As always, your patience in dealing with these traffic impacts is appreciated.

Dates and construction activities may vary depending on weather and other unknown factors.  As always, your patience in dealing with these traffic impacts is appreciated.
