City of Kingman seeks new participants for Adopt-A-Park Program

KINGMAN – The City of Kingman Parks Department is continuing its Adopt-A-Park Program, a community-driven initiative designed to empower local individuals, families, businesses, schools, and organizations to take an active role in maintaining and improving Kingman’s parks and recreation areas.

The Adopt-A-Park Program encourages participants to volunteer their time and resources to beautify parks, enhance public spaces, and foster a deeper connection between Kingman residents and their community. Volunteers may help with tasks like litter cleanup, landscaping, trail maintenance, minor park improvements, and organizing community events. These efforts not only improve the park’s appearance and usability but also promote civic pride and community ownership.

Participants commit to adopting a specific park or section of a park for a set period, typically one to two years. Applications are available online at the City of Kingman website or can be picked up in person at the Parks Office. Once submitted, participants will meet with a Parks representative to review responsibilities and finalize a formal agreement. The City supports each adopter by providing supplies such as gloves, trash bags, and mulch, as well as ongoing guidance. In return, participants are recognized with signage at the park after one year of adoption, acknowledgments on social media, and certificates of appreciation.

Several parks throughout Kingman have already been adopted by dedicated community members and organizations, including:

  • Charles Metcalfe Park – Kingman Route 66 Rotary Club
  • Veterans Memorial Park – Kingman Young Marines / Marine Corps League #887
  • White Cliffs Wagon Trail – Kingman Main Street
  • Walleck Ranch Park – Kingman Rotary Club
  • White Cliffs Trail System – Colorado River Area Trail Alliance (CRATA)
  • Dad Jumps & Happy Place – Katz Tsubai
  • Centennial Park (U18 Soccer/Front Office) – Kingman Youth Advisory Council (KYAC)

However, several high-use parks are still in need of adoption. Lewis Kingman Park, Firefighters Memorial Park, Centennial Park, Southside Park, and Locomotive Park would all greatly benefit from additional care and support. These spaces are frequently used by families, sports organizations, and tourists, and they require ongoing maintenance to remain clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone.

Residents, clubs, and local businesses interested in making a visible impact in their community are encouraged to get involved.
