City of Kingman, Kingman Area Meth Coalition to host walk and expo to highlight substance abuse

KINGMAN – The City of Kingman, in partnership with the Kingman Area Meth Coalition, invites the entire community to take part in the 19th Annual Walk Away from Drugs & Keep Kingman Safe Expo on Wednesday, October 15. Line-up for the walk will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Smith’s Food & Drug, Mother Road Harley-Davidson, and Firefighters’ Memorial Park.

Participants will then walk together to Centennial Park, where the evening will continue with free food, informational vendors, and family-friendly activities. This free event gives Kingman residents an opportunity to stand united against substance abuse and support prevention efforts throughout the community.

The City of Kingman and the Kingman Area Meth Coalition were recently honored with the Keeping Hope Alive Community Impact Award at the Arizona Drug Summit on September 3, in recognition of the impact of this long-running event.

What began nearly two decades ago as a friendly challenge from Bullhead City has grown into the largest and longest-running event of its kind in the state. Each year, Walk Away from Drugs provides a visible way for the community to take a stand, raises awareness about substance abuse, and empowers youth to make positive choices.

“This event has become a cornerstone for Kingman by bringing families together and giving our youth the tools and encouragement they need to make healthy decisions,” said Kingman City Clerk and Kingman Area Meth Coalition Chairperson, Annie Meredith. “For nearly twenty years, Walk Away from Drugs has been about more than prevention.  It’s about creating a culture of hope, resilience, and pride in our community.”
