Safety Week, National Seat Check Saturday proclaimed

Dear Editor, Every day in America, millions of parents and caregivers travel to work, school, and after-school activities with their children. While many of those children are riding in correctly installed car seats for their ages and sizes, most are not. On average, two children under 13 were killed and an estimated 376 were injured every day in 2017 while riding in cars, SUVs, pickups, and vans. While these numbers are significantly lower than they were in 2016 – an eight percent decrease in fatalities, and a 19 percent decrease in the estimated injuries – there is still more work…

A divided America will accomplish nothing

Dear Editor, Wow! You live long enough and you think you have seen and read almost everything. Then a letter appears in the newspapers which shocks the sensibilities such as “Schiff blasts democrats” in the Aug. 21 edition. How does anyone equate his statement, “it is the turning out of voters that wins elections,” with the FACT Hillary Clinton garnered just shy of three million MORE votes than Donald Trump, yet she is NOT our president elect? Majority rules, I think not. It seems the antiquated electoral college actually elects the president, thereby engendering the thought (my vote really doesn’t…

The young don’t know how good they have it

Dear Editor, While shopping at my local Walmart, I happened to be standing in line behind a young lady and three young children. I will assume by the looks of her grocery cart, they were all her children. As she began to unload her nearly over-flowing cart, I was jealous! There were so many snacks, i was almost drooling. Everything from chips, to bakery items, and everything in between. Ah yes. Who else remembers being able to enjoy those things, every single day? We should be rewarded for living this many years. But alas, we are now punished with HEALTHY…

Freedom

Dear Editor, I finally know what I am, deplorable and a white nationalist. Please you socialists, explain to me what that is. I know that nationalist Taiwan is a country. Please explain to me in language I can understand what I am! I understand we have a socialist club in town that is very active. Let’s hear your side of the equation. Now I want to tell you my side of the climate change issue. When I was growing up one of my best friends was the climatologist for the Portland, Ore., weather bureau. We had a lot of very…

Please use common sense

Dear Editor, All the years I’ve driven, and when I did pass my test that meant I had responsibility. Please take note! Having a driver license doesn’t give people the right to act stupid and to abuse their privilege. When you see a sign that reads, “Do not enter” that means you should obey it. That also goes for driving sober as well. I have seen many bad accidents due to drinking and driving. I was a ride-along with the Aberdeen Police Department in Washington state from 1973 to 1990, until my family moved to Kingman. In my lifetime I’ve…

KFD / NACFD Agreement revisited

Dear Editor, I have seen a lot of rants and raves and letters to the editor regarding the agreement. I am a retired firefighter from Los Angeles County (31 years). I have seen comments that Chief Rhoades will be putting the $155,000 in his pocket. Nothing is further from the truth. No one pockets any money. This agreement will greatly benefit both departments as well as the residents they serve. If anything, this will create a lot of extra work for the chief and his staff. But when fully implemented, we will have two departments that could function as one….
