No evidence pets can spread coronavirus

Dear Editor,

Fear of the corona virus infection has led to an increase in pet surrenders around the globe.

According to the CDC, “There is no evidence that companion animals, including pets, can spread the CoronaVirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) or that they might be a source of infection in the United States.”

The pet community is begging everyone not to take their pets to a shelter out of fear that they spread or transmit this strain of Corona Virus.

There is a lot of misinformation being spread about Corona Virus in pets, particularly on social media. There is a Corona Virus strain that affects cats and dogs but neither of these strains is communicable to humans. Any questions regarding your pets’ health should be discussed with your veterinarian.

Those that require help with their pets due to the current pandemic can call the S.A.I.N.T. hotline at 928-985-0663 for information or assistance.  Resources, news and updates about  COVID-19 that directly impacts local pets will be posted on the S.A.I.N.T. Facebook page at www.facebook.com/bhcsaint or on the website at www.bhcsaint.org.
