A letter from a “White” man with an identity crisis

I am a 51-year-old white male from rural Arizona, and I’m embarrassed to say I really have no clue who I am. I also have a feeling there are millions of other white folks in America just like me. I firmly believe White America (whatever that means) has been struggling with an identity crisis since the first European arrived here. I also believe that, until this identity crisis is solved, racism unfortunately will continue to flourish. To give you a full understanding of how ignorant I am, let me tell you what I do know about me. From what my…

Day of Peace planned

Globally we are steeped in pain and turmoil, particularly here in America. Despite this disharmony, September 21, the International Day of Peace (IDOP) beckons humanity, and the entire world of life, forward to peace nonetheless! This year’s global theme for IDOP is: Reflection. Education. Celebration. Interesting word combination and meshes well with Kingman’s theme which is: ”Create Peace”. Kingman’s event is scheduled to be held at Lewis Kingman (Dog) Park), 2201 East Andy Devine Ave., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. In keeping with Kingman’s theme, ”Create Peace”, planned activities include creative endeavors such as face painting, instruction in origami…

Dig It extends thanks

Dear Editor, A huge thank you shout out from Dig It! Last week, Cub Scout Pack 66 and Girl Scout Troop 7478 came together to help move fertilizer for the community garden. The Finney family coordinated the efforts. The manure came from the Alpaca of the Southwest in Kingman.   Many thanks to the Scouts, Finney family and to Ron at the Alpaca Farm for this generous gift to keep our gardens growing! Good job everyone. Your efforts are so appreciated. Denise Neath Dig It Kingman Community Gardens

Who will weep should America fail And fall from within?

The Statue of Liberty would weep if it could. The French of long ago, who created the statue as praise to Americans on their centennial for breaking the bonds of slavery to European royalty and creating the world’s first true republic ruled by the common man and breaking the chains of its own black slavery through its recent American Civil War, would also weep were they here to witness it. Alexis de Tocqueville, were he alive, would weep to see the world’s greatest experiment in liberty fail due to that which he feared, which is that, “…in the human heart…

Will change actually materialize?

Conservatives take note! President Trump has managed to tick off a bunch of military big wigs; John Kelly, Martin Dempsey, James Mattis, Mike Mullin plus his own Secretary of Defense Mark Esper. Seems they all agree there is no reason to invoke the “Insurrection Act” to quell protesters. By the way, Esper will probably be out of a job because he had the backbone to publicly disagree with Trump. Now we learn all four former living presidents as well as Colin Powell and Mitt Romney are showing disdain for supporting Trump. Perhaps it is my paranoia, but I have to…

Deputies extend thanks to community

We at the Mohave County Deputies Association (MCDA) want to thank the citizens of Mohave County for the support we have received over the last few weeks.  MCDA members take pride in our communities and our contacts with our citizens. Our kids go to the same schools as yours, our family members work in the same offices as yours, we walk and drive the same streets as you.  We are dedicated to solving crime and keeping a peaceful, happy community for you, as well as ourselves, to live in. We try our best to show our love to the community…
