Law firm setting sights on making simple pot cases go away

A prominent local attorney is positioning his law firm and staff to help people clear their criminal history of marijuana convictions that might block personal pathways to educational, professional and other opportunities. Brad Rideout said Lake Havasu City-based Rideout Law wants to help people busted in simple possession cases to expunge marijuana convictions from their legal records. The expungement mechanism is one provision of Prop. 207, the Nov. 3 general election approved ballot measure that legalizes use of marijuana in Arizona. KINGMAN – Involved attorneys and the Court agree that another interpreter must be found to communicate with the man being prosecuted for assaulting co-workers with hot cooking oil at the Sakura Sushi & Grill in Kingman. Public Defender Paul Amann asserts that his client, Kien Yun Wong, 70, does not understand and is confused by legal proceedings. Mayor Miles recall submitted

KINGMAN – Petitions proposing the recall of Kingman Mayor Jen Miles were submitted late Monday afternoon, a day ahead of the filing deadline.  City Clerk Annie Meredith said recall leader James Coffman submitted 148 petition sheets bearing 2,367 non-validated signatures. That’s nearly 1,000 more signatures than are required to advance the ouster effort. The petitions and signatures will next undergo an administrative review process at the city and county level. Meredith has the initial oversight, followed by the Mohave County Recorder’s office. County Elections Director Allen Tempert said it’ll be several weeks if not longer before it is determined if…

Toddlers killed in fire

NEEDLES, Calif. – Two toddlers perished in a house fire in Needles and their father has been arrested. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s office said personnel responded at 10:04 p.m. Thursday to a home engulfed in flames in the 500 block of Bazoobuth St. “Once the fire was extinguished, fire personnel entered the structure and found two deceased children inside,” a news release stated. The names of the one- and three-year-old girls were not released.
