Sex offense plea deal unwinds

KINGMAN – Assertions of innocence following the June 21 hearing during which he pleaded guilty in a child abuse case saw the plea deal blow up at a Monday sentencing hearing for Matthew Brown, 24. The Golden Valley man pleaded guilty to two charges reduced to attempted child abuse in an agreement that dismissed charges of aggravated assault and sexual conduct with a minor involving his girlfriend’s 18-month-old son. Brown appeared before Judge Billy Sipe Monday to be given a 5-10-year prison term and extended probation following incarceration. KINGMAN – A second arrest is reported in the murder of a Kingman man whose remains were recovered last December in a remote desert area in Yucca. The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) reports the Aug. 7 arrest of Bryan Keith Gibson, 52, Yucca. Gibson was already jailed in the Adult Detention Center on unrelated drug charges when he was charged with abandonment of a dead body and first-degree murder in connection with…

While the lag is due, in part, to ongoing impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic, an ongoing decline in enrollment at two-year institutions persists since its peak a decade ago. This trend is even offsetting a steady increase in enrollment in four-year institutions. “As recently as six years ago, Arizona was making steady progress,” said Rich Nickel, president and CEO of Education Forward Arizona. “Now, we have less than half of our state’s graduating…
