The kitchen is the heart of the home especially during Thanksgiving. Entertaining friends and family with lots of other potential distractions are all factors that can contribute to the increased likelihood of home cooking fires. According to the NFPA, Thanksgiving is the peak day for home cooking fires, with more than three times the daily average for incidents. Unattended cooking was by far the leading contributing factor to these fires. MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College is celebrating National First-Generation College Students Day. A first-generation (first-gen) college student is someone who is the first in their family to attend a higher education institution. At MCC, more than 70% of students are first-generation college students, and many of the College employees were also first-gen.   Students like Le Ann Flores Gomez, Lake Havasu City Campus, and Martha Aguilar, Kingman Campus, are first-generation students. National Adoption day is celebrated every November.  It is to raise awareness for more than 113,000 children waiting to be adopted from foster care in the United States. Here in Arizona we have almost 1500 children in foster care.
