St. Patrick’s Day a hoot in Chloride

CHLORIDE – Saturday, March 16 is the date for Chloride’s annual St. Patrick’s celebration. Hosted by the Chloride Historical Society and the Special Events Committee this year’s events include an always zany parade down Tennessee Avenue, gunfights, gold panning, vendors, live music, and lots of other family friendly activities. Speaking at Kingman Route 66 Rotary Club’s January 26 meeting was Velizar Iliev, a U.S. Olympian and World Champion. Born in Bulgaria, Iliev won multiple national titles there before moving to the USA and becoming an American citizen. Iliev was a three-time World Champion while in Bulgaria and won the 1999 Pan American Games. He became a volunteer fencing coach at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas,where he coached the Olympian Fencing Club. Ilev and his wife moved to Kingman recently and he will be opening Mohave Fencing Academy to be held at College Park Community Church…

Two heroes host Camp Courage fundraiser

LAKE HAVASU CITY – A study conducted in 2019 by BMC Public Health showed that there were more than eight million new burn victim cases across the globe. The survival rate for the injured is 96.8 percent according to The American Burn Association.  A local of Lake Havasu, felt tremendous empathy towards the victims of these tragedies, and decided to create community involvement in support of burn victims. That local was Christopher (Cookie) Deutsch, the head chef at Lake Havasu’s Veterans of Foreign Wars.   Deutsch’s empathy stemmed from his own burn incidents as a chef; 13 years ago he took action by organizing local fundraisers…
