KINGMAN – At Kingman Route 66 Rotary Club’s July 19th meeting, the club presented two donations to the Jerry Ambrose Veterans Council. The first $7,750 donation was towards the Women’s Veterans Room and the second $4,000 donation towards ADA Compliance. Accepting the donations was Casey Farrell (shown above with club president Karen Brown).
Fire destroyed a single wide mobile home in Kingman on Saturday. Personnel from the Northern Arizona Consolidated Fire District responded at 8:49 p.m. to the incident in the 4700 block of Powell Avenue. NACFD officials said that the home was fully involved upon arrival and that firefighters initially assumed a defensive posture to prevent spread of the fire to nearby homes. “Crews had the fire knocked down in about seven minutes with extensive mop up and overhaul needed,” a news release stated. “Residents had vacated the property prior to Fire Department arrival. KINGMAN – At its July 19th meeting, Kingman Route 66 Rotary Club presented microgrants to 3 local teachers (shown right with club president Karen Brown). A $1,000 microgrant was awarded to Bethany Wigal to be used for a 3D printer for her Cerbat Elementary 5th grade class. A $605 microgrant was awarded to Jennifer Colbert to be used for 5 microscopes and film for her Cerbat Elementary 3rd grade class. A $350 microgrant was awarded to Susan Collins to be used for 40 high-quality recorders for her music class at Manzanita Elementary School.
KINGMAN – A Kingman woman and her boyfriend murdered the woman’s mother because they feared she would attempt to take custody of their son, according to the statement of probable cause for the search that led to the discovery and recovery of the victim’s body. 62-year-old Shawn Vanover apparently had legal custody of Carrie Vanover’s five-year old daughter for undisclosed reasons. Vanover, 23, told detectives that she and Mark Baldonado, 31, began planning to kill her mother about a month before their son was to be born. The probable cause affidavit said they wanted to regain custody of the girl…
Vertical construction brings shape to the Mohave County courthouse expansion initiative in downtown Kingman. Superior Court Administrator Kip Anderson said the more than $20-million dollar project is on track for completion toward the end of 2020.
A brand new Dairy Queen opened in Kingman on Saturday, welcoming a steady stream of customers over the weekend. Co-owner Raman Kalra said challenges and issues associated with development on the small property parcel kept the store from opening before the summer season. “I really wanted to open up in February but we still have a couple of months of warm weather,” Kalra said. “I think we’ll stay busy and I hope this momentum continues.” Kalra said it’s no surprise that customers are flocking to the store for ice cream treats and other menu favorites. “DQ has a cult following….
