Special Use Permit denied at BOS meeting

mohave county administration building

KINGMAN, Ariz. – Mohave County Board of Supervisors Chair Travis Lingenfelter read a proclamation declaring October as Domestic Violence Awareness month in Mohave County at the regular supervisors meeting Oct. 6. The only item of contention on the agenda was a Special Use Permit to allow for a light duty automotive repair facility as a cottage industry in an Agricultural Residential zone.

Mohave County Attorney Will Davis said they had received four letters of opposition to the Special Use Permit and the Commission recommended denying it by a unanimous vote. The only one requesting it be approved was the young man whose business it would affect.

After discussion, it was denied by a 3-2 vote.

Don Martin, Dist. 4, composed a letter to submit to the Secretary of the Interior concerning overpopulation of feral burros. He expressed concerns and requested federal action and funding for management of the feral burro population explosion in the Black Mountain Herd Management Area.

He said only 478 burros had been authorized but there are currently over 4,000. He stated that the burros are running out of food in the mountains and going into towns in search for food and water, causing damage to homes and traffic accidents, one fatal recently.

Sup. Rich Lettman’s proposal to stop accepting donated books at the Mohave County Library, but instead direct those books to Friends of the Library to sell, with proceeds going to the library to buy more books, was approved by a vote of 4-1. The only ‘no’ vote came from Martin. The Meadview Friends of the Library, in his district, had dissolved, so this would have an adverse impact on the library in Meadview.
