Law enforcement officers across the state are lighting the way for Special Olympics

Bullhead City police officers will carry the “Flame of Hope” through Bullhead City Wednesday, to help raise awareness and funds for the Special Olympics Arizona. Citizens are encouraged to join them at the Torch Reception breakfast at Community Park. Teenager killed in ATV collision

A Golden Valley teenager was killed April 3 when the all-terrain vehicle he was operating crashed into a motorized bicycle.    Marc Heywood, 16, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Mohave County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Anita Mortensen. She said sheriff’s deputies responded at 5:50 p.m. to the accident in the area of Egar Road and Zuni Drive.    “It was reported that the ATV was traveling on Egar Road behind a semi-truck when the ATV crossed over into the left lane to avoid the dust caused by the truck,” Mortensen said. “The ATV then collided with a motorized…

Local church raising funds for youth camp

Saturday, April 6, College Park Community Church hosted a Yard Sale Fundraiser for their Youth Camp Fund. There were volunteers of all ages out helping with the cause along with some of the youth group and about 10 others. Tables were set up and the community rolled in with support. “Well we have a lot of youth and a pretty good size youth group. We have about 30 kids. The stands were filled with spectators, anxious athletes and screaming fans as the event began. The All Starz Academy Gymnastics Team took part in the Arizona State Xcel Gymnastics Championship on March 2 through 31, in Glendale. Head coach and owner, Brandee Proffit said, “The team had a fantastic showing with lots of impressive scores and places. I am so proud of their accomplishments.” The Arizona State Xcel Gymnastics Championship has three different levels of competition. Arizona teacher salaries down 9.8% over past decade

A new teacher salary report from the National Education Association (NEA) shows that while Arizona moved up one rank, our teachers are still $11,890 below the national average and when adjusted for inflation, Arizona teacher salaries have decreased by 9.8 percent from Fiscal Year (FY) 2008 to FY2017. “Teachers in Arizona are called to this profession because they want to make a difference in the lives of their students,” says AEA President Joe Thomas. “That means the state needs to provide adequate resources and support the success of our students, support staff, and teachers in our public schools.” Highlights from…
