Teenager killed in ATV collision

A Golden Valley teenager was killed April 3 when the all-terrain vehicle he was operating crashed into a motorized bicycle.

Marc Heywood, 16, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Mohave County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Anita Mortensen.

She said sheriff’s deputies responded at 5:50 p.m. to the accident in the area of Egar Road and Zuni Drive.

“It was reported that the ATV was traveling on Egar Road behind a semi-truck when the ATV crossed over into the left lane to avoid the dust caused by the truck,” Mortensen said. “The ATV then collided with a motorized bicycle that was traveling in the opposite direction.”

Mortensen said the bicyclist was flown to a Las Vegas hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

She said neither victim was wearing a helmet and that the accident investigation continues.
