No charges to be filed in boating fatality

LAKE HAVASU CITY – A boating fatality on Lake Havasu has been ruled an accident for which no criminal charges will be filed. The Mohave County attorney’s office has determined that prosecution is unwarranted in the August 21, 2019 death of Adam Gomez, 17, Redondo Beach. Gomez was one of four teenagers and one of their mothers, Raina Phillips, aboard a boat that was cruising Lake Havasu when the boys decided to jump into the water. McDonald gets prison for boat sale fraud

LAKE HAVASU CITY – A former Lake Havasu City businessman is going to the Arizona Department of Corrections after a Mohave County judge rejected pleas for probation Thursday. Tim McDonald, 48, was given a 4.5-year prison sentence, the maximum punishment possible under terms of a plea agreement accepted by judge Billy Sipe. Deputy Mohave County attorney James Schoppmann told a trial jury that McDonald formerly operated the Offshore Custom Marine boat consignment business in Lake Havasu. LAKE HAVASU CITY – Mohave Community College is pleased to announce that Dr. Maria Ayon will be the new Dean of Student and Community Engagement at the Lake Havasu City Campus. Benjamin Golden from East Gull Lake earned Dean’s List honors from Bemidji State University in Bemidji, Minn., at the conclusion of the Spring 2020 semester. To be eligible for the Dean’s List, BSU students must be enrolled for at least 12 credits and earn a 3.5 GPA during the semester. A total of 737 students earned Spring 2020 Dean’s List honors from the university, and an additional 356 students earned President’s List honors for earning perfect 4.0 GPAs.
