Officer-involved shooting under investigation

KINGMAN – Nobody was injured in an officer-involved shooting incident in Kingman late Sunday, May 10. Kingman Police Chief Rusty Cooper said the gunfire occurred about 11:30 p.m. in the vicinity of the Jack In The Box restaurant off Andy Devine Avenue. Cooper said one male suspect was taken into custody. No further details were provided.The Bullhead City police department is conducting an independent review, which is customary in officer-involved shootings.Bullhead City police department spokeswoman Emily Fromelt confirmed the involvement of her agency and said a press release will issue later today.

Umphress faces first-degree murder charge

MOHAVE VALLEY – A hatchet murder is under investigation in Mohave Valley. Mohave County Sheriff’s deputies responded at 9:11 p.m. Thursday, May 7 to a report of a hatchet assault at a residence in the 1200 block of Vacation Dr. Agency spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said Nicholas Umphress, 33, was detained as he approached arriving deputies. MOHAVE COUNTY – The Mohave County Board of Supervisors unanimously passed a motion Thursday afternoon, May 7, recommending the county open up according to CDC guidelines on Monday, May 11.  This excludes three separate authorities within the county – the libraries, the courts, and the offices of elected officials, but, it was recommended that all county entities follow through on the same date. Suspect sought in stolen vehicle fire

BULLHEAD CITY – Bullhead City Police are looking for a male suspect who sustained injuries after he drove off in a stolen vehicle that caught on fire. At about 5:50 a.m. on Friday, May 8, Bullhead City Police were called to a vehicle fire in the 1700 block of Mohave Drive.  Through further investigation, it was discovered that two unoccupied homes in the 1900 block of Mohave Drive were burglarized and a victim’s white Ford F-150 pickup truck was stolen.
