Mental Health First Aid training offered

KINGMAN – Western Arizona Council of Governments (WACOG) will be hosting a free Mental Health First Aid training on Wednesday, Jan. 29 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the WACOG office, 208 N. Fourth St. This is an eight-hour course that teaches how to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. The training helps identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. To register or for more information call 928-377-4962 or email melindak@wacog.com.

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office has announced the promotion of John Salvino to the rank of Lieutenant. Salvino has demonstrated that he has the knowledge, experience, and tenure to act as a member of the Command Staff and lead others, and he is recognized as a valuable member of the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office. ‘Polar Bears’ come out for New Year

KINGMAN – The “Polar Bears” of Kingman kicked off the new year with their 19th annual Polar Bear Plunge, hosted by the Kingman Parks and Recreation staff on the first afternoon of 2020. The air outside was a cool 44 degrees, and the Centennial Pool water was a frigid 38 degrees. The young and old of our community enjoyed a few moments of bliss before taking their plunge into the freezing water. Frozen plungers warmed back up afterwards with free hot showers, popcorn, and hot cocoa.

BULLHEAD CITY – Fire Marshal Jim Dykens has retired from Bullhead Fire after 42 years in the fire service. Chief Dykens began his fire service career in October 1977 in the United States Air Force.
