MCC Kingman campus nursing students honored at ceremony

KINGMAN – Another class of registered nurses graduated from Mohave Community College. Fourteen graduates have each earned their Associates of Applied Science in Nursing degree and have taken the next step into their career. Nursing students recently had their pinning ceremony where they were accompanied by friends, family, staff and faculty. Shivam Bhakta, nursing staff, presented the Clinical Excellence Award to Noopur Patel. The award is given to the student that performed above and beyond the standard expectation of their roles in terms of commitment to education and learning. Christmas tree recycling begins Friday

LAKE HAVASU CITY – Lake Havasu City Parks and Recreation will accept discarded Christmas trees from residents beginning Friday, December 27 through Sunday, January 12. The drop-off location is in the city lot across from the Aquatic Center located at 100 Park Avenue. The trees are composted into mulch and used as organic cover throughout city parks. Residents may help themselves to the mulch free of charge. Christmas trees must remain whole and free of ornaments, lighting, tinsel, etc. Please do not bring any other trash such as yard trimmings, artificial Christmas trees, appliances, or household items.

Two movies slated for January

KINGMAN – The Kathryn Heidenreich Adult Center (KHAC) will host their monthly movie night on Friday, Jan. 3 and Friday, Jan. 24 beginning at 6 p.m. The Jan. 3 movie is The Ox-Bow Incident from 1943 starring Henry Fonda, Harry Morgan, Dana Andrews, Anthony Quinn, and MaryBeth Hughes. The Jan 24 movie is Mutiny on the Bounty from 1935 starring Charles Laughton, Clark Gable, and Francho Tone. Steve Conn will provide historical and behind-the-scenes commentary before the movie starts. Popcorn, snacks and drinks will be available. A donation of $2 benefits the center’s programs. No injuries in Acoma house fire

LAKE HAVASU CITY – Residents in the 500 block of Acoma Blvd., were able to evacuate their home unscathed after a fire broke out. The occupants discovered fire coming from the roof in the early morning hours of Monday, Dec. 23. Lake Havasu City Fire Department was able to gain control of the blaze in less than 15 minutes and remained on scene for about five hours conducting salvage operation. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
