Panhandling signage is hot topic at BHC council

BULLHEAD CITY – At the Dec. 17 Bullhead City’s City Council meeting an $88,000 odor control system was approved for purchase. The EG-8.2T Duage Biotrickling Odor Control System will be installed near Lakeside Dr., to help with odor caused by sewer waste. Signage was also discussed to discourage the public from encouraging panhandlers in the Bullhead City area. Passive panhandling has been ruled by state and federal courts to be protected free speech. Cities cannot prohibit panhandling on sidewalks unless there are safety concerns or trespassing violations City Manager Toby Cotter presented videos that portrayed the effects of installing signage…

13-year-old arrested for vandalism in Kingman

KINGMAN – On Thursday, December 19, Kingman Police Department officers arrested a 13-year-old middle school student in connection to more than 50 incidents of criminal damage by graffiti. KPD had been taking reports over the past several days in referenced to multiple accounts of graffiti. According to a KPD press release, the total amount of damage is estimated to be in excess of $31,000. Officers developed suspect information on Wednesday. Two other students are also involved to lesser degrees and will be facing similar charges. Anyone with information or questions can call KPD at (928) 753-2191.

Grandfather, grandchildren escape home fire

LAKE HAVASU CITY – Lake Havasu City Fire Department (LHCFD) responded to a home fire in the 3700 block of Chemehuevi Blvd., on the afternoon of Friday, Dec. 20. According to a LHCFD press release, the occupant had discovered a large fire on the back porch that was quickly extending into the home. The first arriving fire company reported fire through the roof and made the decision to fight the fire defensively outside of the residence. Mohave County rolls back sales tax for 2020

Mohave County residents will embrace a reduction in the Transaction Privilege Tax (TPT) at the stroke of midnight on December 31. A 20-year quarter-cent sales tax increment implemented by the Board of Supervisors in 1999 will sunset before dawn of the New Year. Financial Services Director Coral Loyd said the quarter-cent tax generated almost $122 million by October of this year and that the 20-year total through December is projected at $123 million.
