MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave County Supervisors approved rezoning for a commercial endeavor in Oatman and handled a number of other items during a Monday Board meeting that stretched almost 3.5 hours. A number of Oatman merchants oppose New Mexico businessman Tim McCarthy’s plan to offer western flavored activity just outside the historic mining town. Some complained McCarthy will duplicate what’s already offered in Oatman to the detriment of established businesses while others expressed concern about adequate water supply and public safety resources. MOHAVE COUNTY – February is recognized as National Spay and Neuter Awareness Month, and Saving Animals In Need Together (SAINT) is reminding all pet owners of the importance of getting your furry friends spay or neutered to help control pet overpopulation and reduce the number of dogs and cats entering shelters. Spaying and neutering also has additional health and safety benefits such as eliminating the chances of some cancers and infections, and calming wanderlust in search of a mate, keeping the pet at home and avoiding disasters such as being hit by a car or falling prey to a coyote….

LAKE HAVASU CITY – Barbara Cross presents a check to Officer Brent Skancke for the Lake Havasu City Police Department’s K-9 program. Her efforts, along with the support of the community, raised thousands of dollars at the last fundraising event in December, solely for the purchase of the dog, training, and equipment for the program. “Rocky”, a two-year old Springer Spaniel Narcotics Detection K-9, and Officer Skancke, are currently going through training together and within a few weeks, Rocky will help in the fight against illegal drugs in Lake Havasu City. KINGMAN – Join the Desert Road Riders MC for their 14th Annual “We Care” Run on Saturday, Feb. 8. Things to bring include stuffed animals, lap blankets, a smile and a big heart!
