New sewer lines in Beale and Sixth Street

The City of Kingman is planning to construct new sewer lines in Beale Street and Sixth St. The proposed work includes new, 8-inch sewer lines along with two new sewer manholes. The project started Monday, April 22, and should be completed in about three weeks. There may be traffic delays, detours, and restricted lanes associated with the construction activity. In addition, parking in some areas will be limited or restricted during construction. Every effort will be made to minimize the impact on access to businesses. Freiday Construction is the Contractor that will be performing the work.

Chades sentenced to four years in plea agreement

Pummeling and robbing a suspected snitch and later possessing more than a usable amount of heroin will result in a trip to the Arizona Department of Corrections for a Bullhead City man. A four year prison sentence is mandated in a plea agreement entered on April 23 for Jonathan Chades, 30. Chades pleaded guilty to robbery and possession of narcotic drugs for sale. Prosecutor Greg McPhillips said it was December 26, 2018 when Chades and two co-defendants confronted a man they believed to be an informant in the 700 block of Hancock Road. Drug smuggling thwarted at Mohave County Jail

An attempt to smuggle drugs into the Mohave County Adult Detention Center in Kingman was shut down at the point of intake Tuesday. Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said the discovery came at 5:00 p.m. when Jennifer Malynda Sparks, 38, Lake Havasu City was being processed and booked into the facility in Kingman.    “A body scan of Sparks revealed a foreign object and during interviews with staff Sparks admitted to swallowing the items three days before surrendering herself to ‘serve her time,’” Mortensen said. A well-known local woman who with a long history of involvement in civic groups has agreed to serve as the new President and Chief Executive Officer of the Kingman Area Chamber of Commerce. Man accused of stealing $170,000 cash in a suitcase from Walmart His comments at a settlement conference provide hints of the possible legal defense for the Kingman man accused of stealing a suitcase full of cash he found unattended at the local Walmart last summer.
