Registration is open for summer youth programs

Lake Havasu City Parks and Recreation is offering many great programs for kids this summer. Activities include summer swim lessons, beginning swim league, basketball clinic, and Summer Camps. Park and Recreation has what people are looking for! Register today for all summer programs at the Aquatic Center. Registration will be accepted until camps reach their maximum capacity. Baker Graduates from Cornell College

Cornell College conferred degrees on 210 students during its annual Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 12. That includes Katherine Baker of Lake Havasu City, with degrees in International Relations and Spanish. Cornell’s graduates come from around the world, and 62 of them finished two or more majors. In addition, two students received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, one a Bachelor of Music, 12 Bachelor of Special Studies, and 195 earned a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Barrett sentenced to 135 years for child pornography

A Bullhead City man will spend the rest of his life in prison for viewing child pornography on his electronic devices. Michael Barrett, 42, was sentenced to 135 years in prison by Judge Billy Sipe on Tuesday, May 28. A Mohave County Superior Court jury deliberated only 20 minutes on April 3 before finding Barrett guilty of ten counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. Sipe ordered consecutive 13.5-year sentences for each of the convictions. Sipe said the Arizona legislature passed a law requiring Judges to impose at least a decade in prison for each count. Lake Mead seeks public comment regarding permitted diving on the submerged B-29 aircraft

The National Park Service is considering issuing a limited Commercial Use Authorization for guided access to underwater archeological site 28CK7829, also known as the Overton Arm B-29, at Lake Mead National Recreation Area. In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, the National Park Service seeks public comment on potential impacts of the proposal on the historic aircraft. The B-29 crashed into Lake Mead in 1948. Its location was discovered in 2003. Man killed on SR 68 in collision

A Kingman man was fatally injured when the Buick sedan he was operating pulled out in front of an oncoming Chevrolet pickup truck on State Route 68 Thursday, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS). Agency spokesman Bart Graves said John Gutierrez, 81, was dead at the scene of the crash. Officers responded at 11:06 a.m. and determined that the sedan was on Colorado Road and failed to stop before entering the westbound lanes of the highway. Jamison receives nine years with plea agreement

Probation violations and new criminal cases resolved through a single plea agreement result in a nine year prison term for a Bullhead City woman. Lisa Marie Jamison, 39, was sentenced Friday, May 24, by Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle. Jamison was placed on probation in December, 2015 after pleading guilty to four counts of child abuse by for endangering children who had access to four weapons and ammunition inside a Bullhead City apartment.
