Sounds of Kingman, along with their sponsor Taco Bell, is proud to bring their second free concert in the Park featuring Lonesome Dick to Metcalfe Park Sunday, May 19, at 4 p.m. for its second free concert in the park for the 2019 Season. Lonesome Dick has been playing together in the tri-state area since early 2001, brought together by “mutual tastes in music.” Their styles include Rockabilly, Surf, and Honkey Tonk. Milling and paving of Andy Devine Avenue from Stockton Hill Road to Michael Street (before the I-40 Interchange), will begin Monday, May 13 through Thursday, June 6. All businesses will remain open throughout the project, and crews will maintain business access with proper signage to direct the motoring public in and out of businesses safely. The week of May 13 the two northbound lanes will be closed starting May 13 where crews will mill the existing surface and pave the two lanes back. Safe Boating Week is on the horizon and the Arizona Game and Fish Department will kick off the national campaign locally with multiple life jacket exchange events at area lakes Saturday, May 18. Now in its 11th year, the Life Jacket Exchange program allows people with an old, worn out life jacket to swap it for a new one (while supplies last). The Dig It Kingman Community Garden at 2301 Lillie Avenue invites the community to Southwestern Gardening Day on May 18 from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. This children’s event features a special program presented by the Hualapai Cultural Green Arrow Gardening Project. They have agreed to share some of the Hualapai tribe’s traditions. Because of this special presentation, be present from start-to-finish, as each activity happens at a specific time. The Goldstrike and White Rock Canyon trails located within Lake Mead National Recreation Area will close for the season May 15 through Sept. 30. Park management implemented seasonal closures on these trails in 2014 after public safety incidents significantly increased. Goldstrike Canyon is a strenuous hike, requiring bouldering and climbing. It leads to multiple hot springs and the Colorado River. The area known as White Rock Canyon has multiple trails leading to the Arizona Hot Spring, Liberty Bell Arch and the Colorado River.
