Two-vehicle collision backs up traffic at Coyote Pass

KINGMAN – A two-vehicle collision backed up traffic in the northbound lanes of U.S. 93 Thursday, Sept. 6. The wreck occurred at 11:50 a.m. about one mile north of Interstate 40. Deputy Kingman Police Chief Rusty Cooper said a River Medical ambulance was traveling between 50 and 60 miles per hour when it ran into the back of a double tractor trailer hauling potatoes. Cooper said the big rig was traveling slowly, at about 20 miles per hour, as it was pulling its load uphill. The impact caused the two trailers to unhitch but the potatoes remained contained. Visitor fatality along Colorado River in Grand Canyon National Park

GRAND CANYON – Grand Canyon National Park rangers responded to an emergency call of assistance for a 77-year-old man on a river trip Sept. 3, 2019, below Deer Creek Falls along the Colorado River.  Responding rangers arrived at River Mile 136, and took over resuscitation efforts from on-scene personnel. Rescue personnel were unable to resuscitate Kenneth Reece of Tasmania, Australia.  The rescue team recovered the body with the park’s helicopter and transferred it to the Coconino County Medical Examiner.  Reece was swimming in the vicinity of the falls and was recovered from the water by other river trip members who initiated…

Reclamation lowers Lake Mohave water level to aid with annual razorback sucker harvest

 The Bureau of Reclamation is currently lowering water levels in Lake Mohave to aid in harvesting razorback suckers from lakeside rearing ponds. The fish is an endangered species native to the Colorado River. The drawdown is part of annual river operations which are timed to coincide with conservation activities for the fish. Lake Mohave will steadily lower from its current elevation of 642 feet above mean sea level (msl) to an elevation of about 637 feet msl by the week of September 30 and remain at approximately the same elevation for the following few weeks.
